Man calls on MIA to implement tribunal ruling

Malta International Airport (MIA) was yesterday called upon to implement a ruling delivered by the Tribunal for the Investigation of Injustices and to make good the damages he had sustained.

Gardner Bell filed a judicial protest against MIA in the First Hall of the Civil Court. He told the court that, following a ruling of the tribunal in his favour, the Prime Minister had directed MIA to implement this ruling. But the company had refused to do this on the basis that MIA had been privatised. This, said Mr Bell, was absolutely without legal foundation.

Mr Bell added that he had suffered damages as a result of MIA's inaction, particularly when one noted that the company had implemented other rulings by the tribunal in favour of third parties even after privatisation.

He called upon MIA to implement the ruling within one week and to pay him the damages he had suffered, including loss of income and benefits with retroactive effect from 1992.

He also called upon MIA to give him the seniority he deserved with effect from that date and to pay him the difference in income he would have earned.
