The Transport Authority has appointed an independent board to investigate allegations regarding an exam for driving instructors.

The board was appointed on the instructions of Transport Minister Austin Gatt after a candidate informed the ministry that she had been told that she need not sit for the exam. The implication was that the person who spoke to the candidate already knew this candidate would fail, for reasons which had nothing to do with merit or qualifications.

Dr Gatt called on the authority to take disciplinary action if the allegation was proved.
