Valletta fans partied till the early hours of Sunday morning after their team were presented with the BOV Premier League trophy on Saturday.

The newly-crowned champions failed to wrap up their league commitments on a high as they were on the receiving end of a 4-0 defeat but this setback didn't stop their fans from holding a carnival-like celebration party in the streets of the capital. Paul Spiteri, the longest-serving member on the Valletta committee, is confident that this season's title triumph will herald a new glorious era for his club.

"This is our first league since 2000-2001 when Valletta collected a record of six cups but I firmly believe that this title is the start of a new period of success for our club," Spiteri told The Times. "The league is in the bag but our dream now is to clinch the Double." Valletta face Birkirkara in the second semi-final of the FA Trophy tomorrow evening.
