The HSBC Cares for Children Fund, the main sponsor of Puttinu Cares, the voluntary organisation working for children suffering from cancer, has topped up its donation with a further €10,000 (Lm4,293) to bring the total to €62,200 (Lm26,702) over seven years. Puttinu Cares is raising funds to purchase three flats for children receiving treatment for cancer in the UK and their accompanying families.

The Puttinu Cares for Children's Cancer Support Group organised a football marathon to raise money for this initiative.

So far, about €230,000 (Lm98,739) were donated by the public and organisations that took part in the fund-raising events started during the marathon.

Some €1.2 million (Lm520,000) are needed for the purchase of the three residences.

HSBC is also supporting Puttinu Cares for the purchase of the three flats in London through preferential loan conditions and HSBC's strong network in the UK.
