'Gonzi has no excuses'
Joseph Muscat addressing MLP delegates and supporters at Ta' Qali.
Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi had no excuse not to implement all that he had promised before the election and the MLP should expose the government whenever it tried to deceive the people, MLP leadership contender Joseph Muscat said.
Dr Muscat, who was speaking at the MFCC at Ta' Qali before a large crowd of delegates and supporters from the 10th, 11th and 12th districts, considered the other contenders for the post as his colleagues. His only political adversary, he said, was Dr Gonzi.
Dr Muscat said that international problems such as the price of cereals and oil were clear before the election when the PN made its promises. So it was unacceptable that the price hikes would now be used as an excuse for Dr Gonzi not to implement what he promised.
When he spoke about his candidature, Dr Muscat emphasised that he would be leading the party in his own style.
"A vote for Joseph is a vote for Joseph and no one else," he said.

A vote for Joseph is a vote for a modern thinking Malta.
A vote for us all to think individually and objectively.
A vote for all to say what they want, where they want without being victimized in any way or form.
A vote for Joseph is a vote to rid us of this administration in the shortest time possible, preferably before the tax storm, looming in the next budget!

Dear Mr. Seychell,
Dr. Muscat gave a 30min speech not just the 2 paragraphs quoted here. Niether in his speech, nor in this article quoted here did he make reference to MLP's past credibility or promises. He was not trying to defend Dr. Sant. He was replying to those that think there is tension between leadership candidates when he said that his ONLY adversary is Dr. Gonzi and no one else. He then truly said that PN cannot use oil prices as an excuse not to keep its electoral promises. It is PN who is in power now. It is therefore PN's promises that should be kept. MLP's past promises have nothing to do with this issue. I cannot understand why you are comparing electoral manifestos when it is definitely not the point here. You are in fact defending PN by diverting attention to MLP's past blunders. I believe that no one in Malta can say that Dr. Muscat is not right with reference to PN's (unkept) promises! And this is just day 70 of the "new" PN gvt.

Dear Mr. Seychell
I agree with you that the Nationalist Party is implementing ideas from all manifestos but theirs. Ever since the Nationalist Party won the general election the Prime Minister removed subsidies on property for first time buyers and is finding it difficult to reduce taxes. These are just 2 promises found in the Pn manifesto.
So please Mr Seychell give us a break. The honeymoon for the Nationalist Party will be over by the 5th of June.

Dr Muscat should know that before election his leader Dr Sant said on National Tv, that oil prices will go down due to a slowdown!
I am not defending in any way Gonzi, but Dr Muscat should be aware the whether he likes it or not PN were and still are more credible than MLP.
In fact the PN are implementing more ideas from the AN manifest (less minister, 3rd party rights, incentive for workers who work, rather then do nothing cut abuses from social services, register book for sex offenders etc etc) rather then the outdated manifest of Labour
