The restoration of the Addolorata Cemetery is to be taken in hand, Resources Minister George Pullicino told Parliament this evening.
The cemetery was designed by Emanuele Luigi Galizia and opened on 9th May, 1869.
Speaking during the address in reply to the Address by the President at the State Opening of Parliament, Mr Pullicino said the Addolorata was an architectural gem and the need for restoration had long been felt.
Mr Pullicino said his ministry would also embark on a flood prevention and storm water conservation programme. It would rehabilitate Buskett and the Salina salt pans and place special emphasis on the improvement of village cores and tourist centres such as Bugibba, Marsascala, Paceville and Sliema.
Mr Pullicino said the separated waste collection scheme had seen 80 tons of waste collected in its second week, three times more than the first week.
He said work would continue on turning the former Maghtab dump into a national park.
The ministry's agenda also included the setting up of a centre for the care of animals at Ta' Qali.
