Prof. Charles Sammut, dean of the Faculty of Science, recently presented the Dean's awards for excellence in the natural sciences and mathematics to 12 students who placed first, second and third in each of the four years of the B.Sc. (Hons) course during academic year 2006/2007.
During the ceremony he announced that the faculty had secured €2 million worth of funding from the European Regional Development Fund to upgrade laboratory facilities at the biology and chemistry departments and to set up a new research laboratory for electromagnetics at the physics department. Meanwhile, the Department of Accountancy, Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy also recently held its annual presentation of awards to the 2005/2007 Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons) graduate group.
This year's awards were sponsored by the Malta Institute of Accountants, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, the Central Co-operative Fund, six international accountancy firms, and for the first time, the National Audit Office.
