The Table Tennis Academy has just completed the second part of its coaching and participation phase for 2007/2008 and is now rigorously preparing the Summer School schedule.

After last year's success, the Academy has taken the initiative to engage Edwin Cotter, one of Australiaʼs best junior players, to coach during the summer programme, also assisted by Harald Werner, from Austria.

There will be one programme for beginners and sessions for advanced and Four-Star categories. This season has seen an upsurge in the number of those attending at the academy with an overall increase of 35% registered.

The participation of Daniel Vella, Steve Bugeja, Daniel Portelli, Dario Portelli, James Dawson and Marcus Portelli in the International Schools Federation Competition gave new impetus to the organisation.

This year saw the introduction of the doubles tournament and the Davis Cup team competition with the eventual winners being TT Devils (Steve Bugeja and Marcus Portelli). TT Tibhar (James Dawson and Massimo Anastasi) were second.

Vella is still topping the ranking list with 913 points and Bugeja and Portelli lead the way in doubles.

Meanwhile, Edward Baldacchino has just won the national championship, beating Mario Genovese 4-3 in a tight final that lasted 80 minutes.

Both finalists are executive head coaches at the Table Tennis Academy (info@tabletennisacademy.com).
