Valletta celebrate title triumph

Valletta are celebrating their Premier League triumph tonight, even if their party was somewhat dampened by a 4-0 defeat to Marsaxlokk in the final match of th season this afternoon.

The championship trophy was presented to Valletta Captain Gilbert Agius by MFA president Joe Mifsud and will be paraded in Valletta tonight, for the first time in seven years.

The City made sure of the title early this month and their hordes of supporters have been preparing to party ever since.

This afternoon's match was not important for them, but it was crucial for last year's champions Marsaxlokk to leapfrog Birkirkara and Sliema to secure second place and a UEFA Cup berth.

The league title is the 19th for Valletta.
