Simon Spiteri, 44 of St Julians, was arraigned in court this morning and accused of making a profit of €2,795.25 (Lm1,200) by defrauding 16 people.

He was also accused of misappropriation and committing a crime during the operative period of a suspended sentence.

The court ordered that Mr Spiteri be held at Corradino prisons.

Police inspector Angelo Gafa prosecuted.
