Volleyball
International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) board members gave their backing to controversial proposals aimed at limiting the number of foreign players allowed on court in club competitions.
Similar to the "6+5" proposals being championed in soccer by FIFA president Sepp Blatter, volleyball's quota system will ensure that at least half the six players on court are eligible to play for the country where their club is based.
Athletics
Ethiopian Olympic champion Kenenisa Bekele will attempt to break his 10,000 metres world record at next month's Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon, organisers said. The race will take place at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field on June 8.
The stadium is also the site of the June 27-July 6 US Olympic trials.
Rugby
The International Rugby Board (IRB) has announced a £48 million investment programme aimed at raising standards of the sport's developing nations.
The High Performance Investment Programme will benefit 22 countries as the IRB continues to try to grow the sport and make its showpiece Rugby World Cup more competitive.
