Mepa demolishes illegal farmhouse in Wardija
Officials from the Malta Environment and Planning Authority have demolished a ‘farmhouse’ built illegally at Wardija.
The action was the culmination of a long process which saw the developer submit three development applications which were refused. An appeal was also turned down.
The developer also sought a warrant of prohibitory injuntion from the court to stop demolition, but that was also turned down.
The structure consists of seven rooms, with the outside walls built using rubble to create a farmhouse effect.
MEPA officials said the area is outside development zones. Nothing had existed before other than low walls.

What I stated is FACTUAL. To repeat my self, the pre 1992 boat houses at Armier have been given Deeds to the land by the previos Labour Administration. And no one can deny this. Accordingly, unless the Government want to enter in a long legal battle withthe Bouthouses owners, the only alternative remains to it is to make these Boauthouse more plesing to the eye.
At Armier, in the past some boat house were indeed demolished, I shoud know, cause family have fields right across from them. The Prime Minister is on record that those Boathouses build post 1992, meaning they do not enjoy the privelege granted to the 1991 Boathouses given t them by a Labour administratio, will be demolished,
I understand, that many do not want to listen about the past; It must hurt indeed!

I'm so glad that environment is now on our national agenda.
Mepa is on the news cause a one off the thousands of illegal buildings was, or is being demolished and hopefully returned to the ORIGINAL state! What about the rest? Is Mepa demolishing one building and giving permit to another ODZ?
Is the Parliament so weak to put forward some form of legal advice and all the permits given outside development zone be reconsidered, or even better revoked?
When are we going to have an authority which protects and foresees that no harm is done the little intact remaining on these islands?

It really makes me laugh when one states or writes to refer to cases during the Labour administration!!! This government has been in power since 1987...and what did it do? Nothing!! They are still there and I remember quite well that these eye-sores which you referred have not only not been removed but more were built and given all commodities!! So is it not double-standards the way you present arguments. I get fed up reading what has been done more than 20 years ago...that was another century. Shall we start discussing things starting from the 1930s? I would direct a question to you: What will the present administration do with the present eye-sores and the illegal Hotel built on public land? Shall I say...NOTHING WILL BE DONE!!! Ah yes!! Do you remember how the Mistra Land stretched and you could see only green area around? This was during Labour administration...today, just above the Mistra valley, you will find only buildings...

Poor fellow.....and he even covered it with a rubble wall to give it a farmhouse effect.......
Not that I agree with him building the farmhouse on an ODZ but at least he tried to make it pleasing to the eye....
I am still waiting for something to cover up the offensive recycling plant at Marsascala.
Residents were promised a park with trees....and all.
I am also waiting for MEPA to demolish a lot of other structures...

Mr. Falzon, SHAME , SHAME indeed. That the boathouses at Armier, Little Armier and Gnejna, are still there. Unfortunately, not much can be done to the pre 1992 ones. It is a shame that past LABOUR ADMINISTRATIONS not only allowed THEM to be built, but also entered in agreement with the boathouses owners and conveyed ownership of the lands to them.
Oh, by the way, you forgot to mention the other monumental gift that PAST LABOUR ADMINISTRATIONS left for us all to enjoy, that is the GREEN SHACKS at Mellieha Bay

To MEPA: Can we update you with a list of illegal buildings that have been in these years and start demolishing them?...I wonder what stopped them in these years...I remember being ordered to keep watch in the Ghadira area to see whether any illegal boathouses are being built overnight...but to our surprise, a Hotel was built on public land...and it is still there!!!

I hope that the developer will pay for all demolition costs and the damages incurred to environment.
I am still waiting for the government to demolish ALL illegal buildings especially referring to boathouses at Armier, Little Armier, Gnejna etc, and not just those that were built after 1992. Dear Prime Minister & Hon Ministers, please note that those that built illegally have deprived the rest of the general public of the enjoyment of public land.
With regards to the case of JPO - "Tal- Misthija", and I hope that offenders are treated treated equally..including JPO. Shame..Shame..Shame..

Nice one Mepa. Congratulations aside, I find this photograph rather symbolic: tough with the small, but with those a little more plump? As the next step, how about demolishing the Lidl supermarket built on agricultural land in Ħal-Safi.
