The police are investigating a case in which a 38-year-old man from Uzbekistan was seriously injured after being hit with a knife, for no apparent reason, as he was walking in St Julians on Monday evening.

The police said they were informed that the man was taken to Mater Dei Hospital at about 8.40 p.m. on Monday. Preliminary investigations indicated that the victim was assaulted by one or more people as he was walking along Birkirkara Road.

It turned out at the hospital that he was suffering from serious injuries but was not in a critical condition.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna appointed various experts to assist him in an inquiry into the case.
