Industrial accidents decrease

Non-fatal accidents at work decreased by 12 percent to reach 920 in the first quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year, the National Statistics Office said today. There were two fatal accidents during the period
under review whereas there were none in the first months of 2007.

The NSO said that almost a third of the occupational accidents occurred in the manufacturing sector, 17 percent in construction, and 11.1 percent in transport and communications.

In the period under review, 44.6 per cent of the accidents at work occurred to persons who were under 35 years of age and in elementary occupations.
