Middle distance race on Sunday

Personal trainer and multi-Ironman performer Charlie Demanuele, in conjunction with the Malta Triathlon Association and Birkirkara St Joseph, will be organising a second middle distance triathlon, which consists of a 1.9km swim, 90km cycle and a 21km run, in the Birżebbuġa surroundings on Sunday.

While most of the triathletes will be aiming to achieve a personal best time and, perhaps, finish under six hours, participants are also aware of the energy required to cover such distances. In a gruelling event of this kind, an athlete easily burns around 6,000 calories, so careful planning is advised to avoid mishaps during the race, the organisers warned.

Long distance triathlons are becoming more popular these days as relay teams are urged to take part and get the feel of the sport of triathlon.

Registration for the race will take place on Friday at Al Fresco Restaurant, Birżebbuġa, after 7 p.m. Other sponsors on the day are Power Bar and Urban Jungle.
