A 32-year-old man from Mosta was remanded in custody yesterday after he was charged with drug trafficking.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna heard Tony Armando Zahra plead not guilty to trafficking and being in possession of 4.6 grammes of heroin in circumstances denoting it was not for his personal use.

He also pleaded not guilty to relapsing. The court heard that Mr Zahra was apprehended on Sunday morning at his home which the police believe was being used for drug trafficking purposes. Police Inspector Jesmond Borg told the court that Mr Zahra has a pending court case and has already breached bail conditions once before.

His criminal record shows he cannot be trusted and Inspector Borg, therefore, asked Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna to deny him bail.

The magistrate remanded the accused in custody.

Lawyer Anthony Cutajar appeared as legal aid to Mr Zahra.
