Charged with trying to injure security man

A man who allegedly waved a flick knife at a security officer in a bar after he was asked to stop smoking was granted bail against a personal guarantee of €2,329.37 (Lm1,000).

Anthony Bartolo, 47, of Qormi pleaded not guilty to trying to seriously injure Alexander Taliana, at Incognito Bar and Restaurant, early yesterday morning.

He also denied being in possession of the knife without a licence, threatening Mr Taliana, swearing, breaching the peace and smoking in a public place.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna heard that Mr Bartolo had been smoking in the bar when Mr Taliana asked him, on a number of occasions, to refrain from lighting up. An argument ensued with Mr Bartolo allegedly waving a flick knife at Mr Taliana. Police Inspector Paul Bond recommended to the court that granting bail to Mr Bartolo would be sufficient for the time being, until the case is heard.

Magistrate Apap Bologna granted Mr Bartolo bail against a personal guarantee of €2,329.37 (Lm1,000).

Lawyers Josè Herrera and David Camilleri were defence counsel.
