The programme at the Marsa racetrack yesterday included nine all-trotting events on the rather long 2,640m distance except for the first race on the card which was over 2,140m.

There were five Silver events in all but no races from the higher Premier or Gold divisions.

The rest of the programme, held in continuous rain, included one race from Bronze, two Copper and one qualification race. Noel Baldacchino was best driver with three wins.

Jaguar de France (Darren Mizzi) had an easy five-length win in the first Silver event on the card. This trotter jumped into the lead some 400m from the post and never relinquished that placing.

The second Silver race developed into a close finish, involving four trotters, but it was O'Haras Arrow (Mario Falzon) that managed to claim victory in the end.

Lotus du Goth (Andrew Spiteri) effected a very strong dash along the final straight of the third Silver race to emerge from the inner side and register its second win on the trot at Marsa.

Match de Bannes (Noel Baldacchino) dashed really strongly along the last 150m to emerge winner in the next Silver race to register a third win in its last four outings.

There was a tussle between three trotters along the last 100m of the fifth and final Silver yesterday. In the end, it was Baronello (Jason Vassallo) that reached the post first.

The next meeting at Marsa is scheduled for Sunday at 1.30 p.m.
