Obituary

BLOOMER. On May 11, OLIVE MBE, widow of Colonel Bertram, passed away peacefully. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughter-in-law Eleonora, her grandsons James and Robert, other relatives and friends.
The funeral service will take place today at 3 p.m. at St Lawrence Cemetery, Vittoriosa .

BUTTIGIEG. On May 10 at Mater Dei Hospital. JOSEPH, aged 77, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of the Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Judith Anne, née Gardiner, his brother John, sisters-in-law Nora, Margaret and Penelope, his brother-in-law James and his wife Geraldine, nephews and nieces, his many cousins, relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow, at 8.30 a.m., for Santa Maria parish church, Attard, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi would be appreciated.

GALEA. On May 9, GEORGE EDWARD, aged 90, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss Olga, his sisters Lillian, Joan, Margaret, Terry, Winnie and Dorothy, his brothers Joseph and his wife Rosemarie, and Vincent and his wife Yvonne, his sister-in-law Vicky, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Lina, his daughters Genevieve and her husband Renato, Denise and her husband George, Antoinette and her boyfriend James, relatives and friends.

He leaves to mourn his loss his daughter Stephanie, his sisters Stella and her husband Edgar Ellul, Rose and her husband Alex Farrugia of Australia, and Antoinette, nephews and nieces, grandnieces and grandnephews, other relatives, many friends and Marie.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2.30 p.m. for Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery chapel where Mass praesente cadavere will be said followed by interment. No flowers by request but donations to the Malta Hospice Movement will be greatly appreciated.

Archaeology and the sea

A seminar by Timmy Gambin on Archaeology And The Sea will be held at the Gateway Building, Room 104, at the University of Malta on Saturday between 9.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m.

The seminar will cover an introduction to archaeology and the sea, new techniques in underwater archaeology and maritime archaeology in the Mediterranean.

Research in this sector has brought to light important evidence that has bettered how past economies, trade patterns and ancient shipbuilding technology worked. Participation, which is open to the first 25 applicants, is free. To apply, drop an e-mail to mevick.spiteri@gmail.com.
