Lufthansa is expanding its route network from Milan to offer passengers a much wider choice of flights from the North Italian city to European destinations, the airline said.

In a first step, from the beginning of 2009, six new Embraer 195 jets will be stationed at Milan Malpensa Airport.

The aircraft will be operated by the Italian Lufthansa subsidiary Air Dolomiti and will be deployed on intra-European routes.

In order to provide the infrastructure and ensure that the necessary conditions are in place for future operations at Milan Malpensa, Lufthansa has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SEA, the operator of Milan Airports.
