World number one Justine Henin has pulled out of this week's Italian Open because of fatigue, the WTA said.

Henin, a four-times French Open winner, has struggled for form all year and suffered a surprise defeat to Dinara Safina in the third round of the German Open on Thursday.

Rome Masters (men): SFs - Djokovic bt Stepanek 6-1 1-0 (ret.); Wawrinka bt Roddick 3-0 (ret.).

German Open (women): QF - Ivanovic bt Szavay 3-6 6-4 6-3. SFs - Safina bt Azarenka 6-4 6-1; Dementieva bt Ivanovic 6-2 7-5.
