Researchers turn up en masse for conference

Over 130 educational researchers from the Mediterranean and beyond will be taking part in a conference on intercultural dialogue focused specifically on the region, which kicks off today at the Dolmen Hotel in Qawra.

The conference, 'Intercultural Dialogue through Education', is the third organised by the Mediterranean Society of Comparative Education (MESCE) and will run until Tuesday.

The papers will focus on subjects such as migration, post-colonial education, religion, multi-ethnicity and education.

The conference is convened by MESCE secretary general Carmel Borg and its president Prof. Peter Mayo.

The keynote speakers are Prof. Ronald Sultana and Dr Isabelle Calleja from the University of Malta, Prof. Mehdi Lahlou from the University Mohammed V, Morocco, Prof. Zelia Gregoriou from the University of Cyprus, Prof. Andre` Elias Mazawi, from the University of British Columbia, Prof. Paolo Landri, from the Universita` degli Studi di Napoli Federico II and Prof. Mark Ginsburg from the Academy for Educational Development in the US.

The event is sponsored by the University of Malta, the Strickland Foundation, the Euro-Mediterranean Centre for Educational Research, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, Taylor and Francis and Sense Publishers.
