Mr Lizard and Little Shrew, a new theatre show aimed at children aged four to 11 on global warming, the Maltese environment and bullying, has started touring schools this month. It is devised and directed by Patrick Vella and performed by members of Curtain Raiser as part of the Theatre in Education series.

Curtain Raiser believes that through edutainment, visual aid and songs children are more likely to learn and remember certain facts. Over the past few years it has toured a number of schools with shows promoting various topics ranging from oral hygiene to healthy eating.

The script for this show is a spin-off from the production Wara L-Ħajt tas-Sejjieħ that Curtain Raiser had put on for Notte Bianca last year. Its main characters include a Maltese lizard, a pigmy shrew and a prickly pear complete with life-imitating costumes

The show's tour is being partially sponsored by Green Pak, a company that forms part of a European organisation that carries out the recovery and recycling of packaging waste. Company mascot Green Gary will join the effort to raise environmental awareness among children by making them aware of the work Green Pak carries out as a company.

For example, Green Gary will explain all about the Green Dot symbol on product packaging. This is a system that companies use to show their customers that by buying products featuring the Green Dot symbol they are indirectly financing the recovery and recycling of their packaging waste.

Green Gary will also encourage children to join Green Pak's children's club by logging on to its website www.greenpak.com.mt/kids that provides ideas on how to be creative using recycled material.
