Your rights on pricing of items

What price information should be displayed on the goods for sale? Get to know your rights and make sure you assert them.

How should the price be indicated?

Prices of all goods for sale must be clearly displayed in bold print or written on the price label or the price mark on the shelf. It should be easily identifiable and clearly legible and must include VAT and any other taxes or charges.

Can I insist that the goods are sold at the indicated selling price?

Yes, the goods must be sold to you at the price stated on the price label or the price marked on the shelf. You should never be asked to pay more than the indicated price. It would be an offence for a trader to indicate false or misleading prices.

Until when are traders obliged to indicate prices in both euro and Lm?

Traders have been obliged to display prices both in Maltese liri and euro since last July and are obliged to continue doing so until the end of June. Dual display makes it easier for you to accustom yourself to the euro as well as to notice any abuse including price variations during the changeover. The exchange rate of €1= Lm0.4293 must apply in all dual display of prices.
