Flour mill tour
The Geography Teachers Association will be holding a visit to the underground flour mill at Mistra tomorrow morning.
Those interested are to meet near the entrance to the Mistra village at Xemxija at 10.15 a.m.
The Mistra underground mill was built during the Cold War in the early 1950s when a nuclear war was more than a possibility. For this reason the British military authorities built eight underground nuclear-proof flour mills spread around the Maltese islands. The Mistra underground flour mill was restored by Fondazzjoni Wirt Industrijali and is now in working order.
This activity is specially recommended to those persons who have a passion for geography and history.
