A 28-year-old man from Paola yesterday pleaded not guilty to stealing a computer and €600 (Lm257.80) in cash from a house in his hometown.

Magistrate Michael Mallia heard Jason Gatt plead not guilty to stealing a computer worth €908 (Lm389.80) together with a monitor, a keyboard and a cash box with €600 (Lm257.80) inside it.

Police Inspector Spiridione Zammit told the court that Mr Gatt has a drug problem and needs assistance. Mr Gatt's father refused to have him home while his mother refused to let her son leave. After considering the circumstances, the magistrate granted Mr Gatt bail against a personal guarantee of €1,000 (Lm429.18).

Lawyer Nicole Vella was defence counsel.
