WasteServ is currently undergoing a process to decide whether to make us pay for the "special" garbage bags used to collect separated waste on Tuesdays. Now I ask: If people had to pay for these bags, would that not mean that more people would decide to throw their plastic/paper/tin out in the normal garbage bags?
If anything, we should pay for the normal refuse service and not the separated one.
If we had to pay to leave our garbage on our door steps, we would think twice about what to throw away and how often to take the garbage out. With a family of four I only afford to take the garbage out on alternate days as I recycle most of my garbage.
With soft drinks now sold in plastic bottles, and summer round the corner, I'm sure that we will be seeing more plastic bottles thrown away.
This is the first summer that drinks will be sold in plastic bottles or cans, so let's get it right the first time and get into the habit of disposing of them appropriately.
I appeal to WasteServ to come up with something that will promote waste separation and not hinder it!
