I refer to the letter by James Samuel (Need To Adjust Bus Fares, May 8).

While also being a resident of Malta, but still a guest here, I regard it as a gross insult to our hosts to recommend what amounts to the imposition of a 10 per cent increase in bus fares on people in a low-wage economy, also rather undermining the government's intense efforts to ensure no rise in prices as a result of conversion to euro. To take the trouble of remitting the correct amount would remove the "overcharging" he fears.

If and whenever this occurs I also prefer to think it might be a lack of time and patience to do the mental arithmetic, rather than any deliberate intention to profit.
