Young Stars hit five goals past champions

Rabat Depiro 2
Young Stars 5

Young Stars showed their attacking intentions straight from the start. Their early pressure yielded a goal after eight minutes through David Evans.

On 18 minutes, Young Stars' young goalkeeper Brandon Sant saved well from efforts by Jason Vella and Josef Antonelli. A minute later, a flick by Charlot Antonelli hit the post with Sant beaten.

Rabat equalised on 20 minutes when, from a short corner, Shawn Falzon hit home.

In the second half, Young Stars raised their efforts and by the 41st minute, they had gone ahead through a slap-shot by Chris Bonello after a good move by Nick Agius Darmanin.

Eleven minutes later, Bonello again managed to squeeze the ball under the diving Azzopardi to put Young Stars 3-1 ahead.

Young Stars sealed the game when Chris Attard beat Azzopardi from the top of the D, and in the 67th minute, Charlie Micallef scored goal no.5 from the penalty spot.

Just before the final whistle, Falzon pulled one back for the newly-crowned champions who have shipped in 10 goals in their last two matches which both ended in defeats.

Umpires: D. Agius, R.Cremona.

Qormi 7
Sliema Hotsticks 0

This game was a one-sided affair as Qormi's seven-goal winning margin clearly indicates. Suffice to say that Qormi goalkeeper Ramon Chircop did not touch the ball once during the first half and was only troubled towards the end of the game.

Qormi were 3-0 up by the end of the first half with goals from Keith Calleja, Steve Tanti and John Williams.

In the second half, Qormi kept up the pressure and from yet another short corner, it was Owen Piscopo who netted from close range. On 50 minutes, Steve Tanti finished off a solo move with a pass to the unmarked Rudolph Camilleri who had no problem making it 5-0.

Gareth Dimech and Camilleri were on target late in the game to complete Sliema's rout.

Umpires: E. Hughes, S. Cassar.
