Gold medals for SKSM in Messina tournament

The SKSM Karate Malta school was recently invited to take part in an international tournament in Messina, Sicily.

The Maltese team, headed by SKSM coach Chris Galea, included Lucienne Galea, Michael Attard, Mario Demanuele and Vanessa Attard in the senior categories, and Dalton Aquilina, Andrew Galea and Isaac Zammit in junior events. Over 350 athletes took part with the Maltese selection returning home with 10 medals, including three gold.

Lucienne Galea topped the women's Open and Vanessa Attard was the winner in the cadets kumite. In the juniors' kumite, Isaac Zammit finished first and Dalton Aquilina third.

At present, SKSM members are undergoing an intensive build-up programme for the junior and cadets championships which will also feature teams from England. The fifth Alan Gauci Memorial will be held in July and later this year, the SKSM will send a team for international tournaments in Romania, Italy and England.
