Obituary
GRECH. On May 8, at Mater Dei Hospital, PIETRO, of Guardamangia, aged 79, passed away peacefully to join the Risen Lord, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Teresa, his children Giuseppe and his wife Diana, Giovanni and his wife Aliki, Yvonne and her husband Amadeo, his grandchildren Pietro-Alessandro, Denise and her fiancé Mark, Jonathan, Stephanie and Rachel, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 1.15 p.m. for Ta' Fatima parish church, Guardamangia, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2 p.m. followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Ursuline Institute Guardamangia, will be greatly appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors.
CAUCHI. On May 8, at Mater Dei Hospital, CARMEL sive Charles, ex-sergeant RAF, of Birkirkara, aged 71, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Margaret, his children Sandra and her husband Patrick Clark, David and his partner Cristina, Ruth and her husband Vincent Debono, his grandchildren Matthew, Daniel, Brandon, Clarissa, Owen, Deborah and Sean, his sisters and their husbands, in-laws, other relatives and friends.

Requiem Masses

Soprano in concert
Soprano Lydia Caruana will perform together with Peter Berger and Jan Curco and the National Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Charles Olivieri-Munroe on May 25 at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta.
Tickets sell at €60 (Lm25.75) for the dress circle, €25 (Lm10.73) for the stalls and €10 (Lm4.29) for the balcony.
Bookings for this NnG Promotions concert are available from the Mediterranean Conference Centre from Monday to Friday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. and on Saturday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. On the day of the concert, bookings will be available between 6 and 8.30 p.m.

Lecture on Caravaggio
Following the opening of last week's exhibition of the Żejtun painting by Caravaggio and the revived public appreciation of the Italian artist's renowned works, Roberta Lapucci, the person responsible for restoring the painting, will be giving a detailed lecture this evening on her observations while working on the painting.
The lecture, being held at St John's Cavalier in Ordnance Street, Valletta, will instigate the inevitable question: Was Caravaggio alone in producing such a masterpiece?
The lecture starts at 6 p.m. A guided tour will follow the debate. Entrance to the lecture is free and entry to the exhibition is €5.
Pentecostal functions
Archbishop Paul Cremona will start his Pentecost vigil activities tomorrow at 5.30 p.m. with a visit to the Attard primary school.
Later that evening, at 7.30, he will walk from his residence to the location of the Pentecost vigil eucharistic celebration in Victor Vassallo Street, Attard, where Mass will be celebrated at 8 p.m.
At 11.15 p.m. he will then attend the first part of a Pentecostal night vigil at the Marsa Sports Centre. The following morning, at 6.30, the Archbishop will participate in a celebration at the same sports centre.
Later, at 9.15 a.m., he will celebrate a Pentecostal Pontifical Mass at St John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta.

Accountancy students rewarded
The Department of Accountancy at the University's Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy presented a number of awards to the Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons) 2005/2007 graduate group.
The Malta Institute of Accountants Best Student of the Year prize and the Deloitte and Touche prize for the best dissertation in taxation were awarded to David Busuttil.
The CIMA prize was awarded to Lorraine Abela, the Cooperative Societies prize to Herman Baldacchino, the Ernst and Young prize in financial reporting was awarded to Rachelle Briffa, the Maltese Law prize was awarded to Justin Chircop, the KPMG prize in financial accounting was awarded to Noel Bezzina and a second KPMG prize, this time in internal auditing, was awarded to Graziella Cassar.
PricewaterhouseCoopers also presented two prizes: one in external auditing to Jana Azzopardi and another for not-for-profit organisations to Mark Adrian Bonello.
The RSM Malta Prize for best dissertation in finance was awarded to Charisse Cuschieri.
Three new prizes were also presented. The National Audit Office's prize for the best dissertation in public sector auditing was awarded to Charlene Brincat and Deloitte and Touche's prize for the best dissertation relating to the accountancy profession was awarded to Marie Claire Tabone. A new Ernst and Young prize in corporate governance was also awarded to Louana Borg.
Fair Trade coffee
Koperattiva Kummerċ Ġust will be holding its Worldfest at the Upper Barrakka Gardens, in Valletta on June 22 from 4 to 10 p.m.
The NGO is an International Fair Trade Association member and Worldfest will be part of an International Fair Trade movement event.
Fair trade organisations from all over the world and about 1,000 Worldshops all over Europe will tomorrow offer a varied programme. Koperattiva Kummerċ Ġust will take part in World Fair Trade Day too by inviting people for a Fair Trade Coffee at L-Arka in St Paul Street, Valletta and learn more about the link between fair trade and sustainable development.
The theme of Fair Trade And Environment has also been chosen for Worldfest 2008.
Prehistory lecture
Heritage Malta will host a public lecture entitled The Recent Prehistory in Alicante - From Neolithic Time to the Bronze Age, at the foundation's head office in Valletta today at 6.30 p.m.
Jorge A. Soler Diaz, director of the exhibition of the MARQ Archaeology Museum in Alicante, Spain, will be delivering the lecture in Spanish, which will then be translated into English.

Piano recital
Matt Rubenstein will be performing a piano recital at the Manoel Theatre on May 27 at 8 p.m. The concert will be held in aid of Discern, an institute for research on the signs of the times.
Portuguese courses
The Embassy of Portugal said that the Faculty of Arts at the University of Coimbra in Portugal is accepting applications for its annual course in Portuguese language and culture.
Those interested are asked to pre-enrol until September 19 by filling in and sending the relevant form, which, together with other information on the course, is available on the Embassy website at www.embportmalta.com. A printed brochure can also be obtained from the Embassy's offices at Whitehall Mansions, Ta' Xbiex Seafront, Ta' Xbiex.
Mummy and baby club
Over 1,200 members have joined Nestles' Mio Mummy and Baby Club making it one of the most active club of its nature on the island, the company said.

Attard exhibition
Anna Dumicz, a Polish artist residing on the island, will be holding an exhibition at the Corinthia Palace Hotel, Attard between May 16 and June 16.
Her forte is portraits and her grasp of the anatomy shows best in her nude forms. She is also exhibiting local and foreign landscapes and sketches.
Pastoral activities
The Secretariat for Parish Life and Activities and the Institute for Pastoral Formation will hold two meetings at the Augustinian Sisters Hall, Fleur-de-Lys, on May 16 and 23 at 6 p.m.
The first meeting starts with prayers and a Biblical reflection by Fr Paul Sciberras. Fr Arthur Vella SJ will speak about Personal Discernment.
The second meeting will start with prayers followed by a role play on the theme Pulling One Rope. Fr Joe Galea Curmi will speak about Community Discernment.
This second meeting will be concluded by Archbishop Paul Cremona.
Ignatian retreats
The Centre of Ignatian Spirituality will hold a retreat at Mount St Joseph Retreat House, Mosta from May 16 to 18, led by Fr Mario Jaccarini SJ.
Prayer and reflection will be centred on the Mass including its theological basis and the meaning of each part of the Mass.

Dominican Communication
The Dominican Province has launched Komunikazzjoni Dumnikana (Dominican Communication) to take care of communications with society through the media.
Komunikazzjoni Dumnikana will be responsible for publications, including the Dominican review Knisja 2000, the production of DVDs and CDs and the Dominican website.
