Malta International Airport has registered yet another increase in passenger movements after gains recorded over the previous months.

It said it had seen 251,548 movements on scheduled and non-scheduled flights in April, a 6.2 per cent rise over the same month last year.

The seat capacity decreased marginally by 1.4 per cent but the seat load factor increased by 5.1 per cent to an average of 70.8 per cent.

Aircraft movements dropped from 2,337 in April last year to 2,236 last month. Incoming and outgoing cargo and mail handled at MIA was of 1,565 tonnes, an increase of 13.7 per cent when compared to April last year.

MIA registered an increase of 109,219 passenger movements (+16 per cent) during the first four months of 2008 and an increase of 503 aircraft movements (+7.2 per cent) on its scheduled and non-scheduled traffic.

The busiest day during this period was April 26 with 11,455 passengers and 96 aircraft handled.
