Over 25 tonnes of separated packing waste from 34 localities were collected on Tuesday from households, according to the Sant'Antnin Waste Treatment Plant, where the waste ends up.

The waste collected was well sorted and clean from organic waste, it said.

The locality where the largest amount of recyclable material was collected was Mellieħa with a total of 4,340 kg, closely followed by Attard, with 3,780 kg.

Other localities where over 1,000 kg of material was collected included Qormi, Swieqi, Tarxien and Sliema.

The scheme to collect separated packing waste - paper, plastic and metal - from households kicked off on Tuesday in Malta and on Monday in Gozo, where five tonnes were collected on that day.
