In a letter entitled Delayed Mail (April 26) Jacob Rizzo of Qawra complained that an item franked at a Glasgow post office on March 29 was delivered by Maltapost on April 19.

We would like to assure the correspondent and The Times readers that Maltapost operates on what is known as a J + 1 basis with both local and incoming foreign mail. This in effect means that foreign mail is delivered on the first working day following its conveyance from the airport.

Mr Rizzo also refers to an item posted at Qawra on a Tuesday and duly delivered in Glasgow on the following Friday. This confirms that all mail destined for foreign countries is forwarded to destination within 24 to 48 hours, depending on the air service frequency. Maltapost adheres to its commitment to effect mail delivery as speedily as possible.

I trust this clarifies matters.
