Żejtun council complains over bring-in sites

The Żejtun local council has complained that bring-in sites in the town have not been emptied since May 1.

As a result, it added, mounds of plastic have been dumped by the sites, making the situation intolerable.

The council called for the immediate action and expected WasteServ to apologise to Żejtun residents for the inconvenience and assure them that the incident would not be repeated.

Reacting to this statement, a WasteServ spokesman said that on receiving a request from the council, the company raised the number of bring-in sites by five. Last Monday it emptied the bins containing plastic, on Tuesday those containing paper and yesterday the bins with cans.

Yesterday WasteServ received four trucks of separated waste from households in Żejtun. One of the sites which was full was handled late yesterday on receiving the complaint, the spokesman added.

It seems that this is a problem with many localities. I tried several times to contact the Wasteserv on their free phone but i never got any reply. Now it seems the other way round. It is Wasteserve that is not co-operating. Who is responsible for all this?

Unfortunately this is not the only bring in site that is not cleared often enough. WasteServ need to up their collection system or have a hot line number for residents to be able to notify WasteServ that the bins are full and need urgent clearing.
