More illegal immigrants brought ashore

Twelve illegal immigrants were brought ashore at Haywharf in Pietà yesterday, the police said.

The Armed Forces of Malta's Swift-class P-23 patrol boat had intercepted the immigrants in an eight-metre long, black, fibreglass boat in rather good weather conditions some 24 miles off Wied iż-Żurrieq at about 6 a.m.

The group consisted of six men, five women and a girl, who were in good health. The AFM said the girl appeared to be suffering from eczema.

This latest arrival follows three boatloads last week. The migrants were handed over to the immigration police led by Inspector Sandro Zarb. A medical response team were in attendance to check the migrants' state of health.
