Just over 4,800 cases pending before Mepa

The Malta Environment and Planning Authority said yesterday it determined 739 applications and received 591 new ones last month, leaving the net pending caseload at the end of the month at 4,801.

During April, Mepa said it processed 160 development notifications, which, according to the Development Notification Order 2001, do not require a formal application.

In the same month, 91 stop and enforcement notices were issued: 69 in Malta and 22 in Gozo.

Furthermore, 69 enforcement cases were closed: 64 in Malta and five in Gozo. A further 46 enforcement cases were sanctioned by the issue of a sanctionable permit and another 22 cases were resolved after the owners decided to remove illegal development and comply with enforcement notice.

During the same month, one case was withdrawn by Mepa.
