Obituary

FRANCALANZA. On May 6, at her residence in Żejtun, MARIA CONSIGLIA, aged 73, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband Emanuel, her children Jane and her husband Dominic Spiteri, Fr Ray Francalanza, OSA (Millennium chapel, Paceville), and Roberto, her grandchildren Rebecca and Abigail, in-laws, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves her residence today at 1.30 p.m. for St Catherine parish church, Żejtun, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2 p.m., followed by interment in the family vault at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery.
Lord, grant her eternal rest.

ST. JOHN. On May 6, at Mater Dei Hospital, HENRY MARTIN of Birkirkara, manager, Casa Serena, Buġibba, aged 54, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Maphine, née Baldacchino, his sons Andrew and his fiancée Alexandra and Christopher and his fiancée Maria Elena, his mother Theresa, his sister Helga, his mother-in-law Mary, his grandson Jeremy, his nephews Aiden and Kieran, his sister-in-law Tanya, his friends at Casa Serena, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 1.30 p.m. for St Mary's parish church, Birkirkara, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated.

WSC van stolen

The Water Services Corporation has warned people to ensure that anyone claiming to represent the corporation, and in possession of a WSC van, shows the proper identification.

A white WSC Kia Ceres van was stolen and abusive use may be made by it, the corporation explained.

The van, bearing registration number TFC 711, was stolen from Qormi. Anyone having any information about the van should phone the police.

Helpers needed for Summer University

The European Democrat Students Council (EDS) will hold its Summer University for 2008 in Malta, Studenti Demokristjani Maltin (SDM), which will be hosting the council, said.

Over 150 participants will be here from the 33 member organisations of EDS. The event will be based on the theme chosen by the European Commission for 2008, namely that of intercultural dialogue.

SDM said it will be requiring a vast array of helpers some of whom will be paid. This opportunity is open to students from the University of Malta and from the Junior College.

Every summer the Maintenance Grants Board offers an opportunity to work for a 25-day period starting either on July 16 or August 20. Applications are available from the KSU office and should be returned to the office by May 9.

Ballet auditions

The Hungarian National Ballet Company will be holding auditions for both male and female ballet dancers up to the age of 30.

The repertory varies from classical to contemporary and modern works.

Applications should reach the Hungarian State Opera by not later than May 15. Those chosen will be contracted between September 1 and August 31, 2009.

St Lawrence exhibition

An exhibition entitled Xbigħat Ta' San Lawrenz will be held at Dar Levita Martri, Triq Nestu Laivera, Vittoriosa between May 25 and June 1 on the occasion of the saint's 1,750th anniversary since his martyrdom.

The exhibition incorporates a number of statues, paintings, photos and incisions related to the saint. Those who would like to take part can phone 9903 4245.
