A 25-year-old bus driver from Mosta yesterday pleaded not guilty to screening a pornographic DVD in his bus while taking school children home.

The man, who cannot be named by court order to protect the identities of the children, pleaded not guilty to screening the film on the bus on Monday between 1 and 2 p.m.

Defence lawyer Anġlu Farrugia told the court the children had pressed him, to the point of annoying him, to play a DVD, adding that the driver was unaware of what the DVD contained.

The children, who attend St Monica School, Gżira, are aged between nine and 14.

The incident allegedly happened as the bus was travelling between Gudja, Ġħaxaq and Sta Luċija.

Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona granted the man bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000 (Lm2,145.92) and ordered him to keep at least 100 metres away from the school. Police Inspector Alexander Grech prosecuted.
