With the aid of this photo I would like to clearly demonstrate, to whoever is responsible, the dire need to widen the bottle neck which exists along St Gerald Street in St Paul's Bay.

Those who are familiar with this area know too well that this short narrow street is a very hectic two-way throughfare which during the summer months is also very much in use by a large number of pedestrians.

I therefore would like to suggest that this part of the road be widened. By so doing it will become safer to the pedestrians, allow an easier flow of traffic and besides, it will embellish this very popular Sirens area.

The work required is minimal, as this will only need the construction of a few pillars or arches on the side of the road, upon which the widened road could be supported.

Let me give an example. In St Julians, just up the road in front of the Carmelite Church, the widening of the street was likewise carried out. This is clearly visible if one looks from the Neptunes Water Polo Club across the bay.

All this is therefore possible, but unless whoever is responsible is ready to accept this suggestion and take a positive decision, St Gerald Street, St Paul's Bay will remain a very dangerous zone especially for families with children.
