Wave of drug arrests

Nineteen persons were arrested over drugs in raids that were staged in different parts of the island over the last few days, the police said yesterday.

A 39-year-old man was found in possession of 22 sachets of cocaine, which were ready to be trafficked, at Buġibba on Friday night.

During the same operation a Briton aged 43 from St Paul's Bay was found in possession of cocaine.

Later that night, two men aged 21 and 22 from Naxxar were caught smoking cannabis at Dingli Cliffs by Drug Squad police. Ten persons were arrested for drugs in raids carried out by the police during two parties in Qawra and St Julians on May 1. Another two men were arrested by the Drug Squad and Msida police after they were found in possession of cocaine on April 26.

A day later another three youths were arrested at a public garden in Sta Venera after they were nabbed using cannabis. Investigations are expected to lead to court arraignments in the coming days, the police said.
