Scouts and Girl Guides took to the streets of Valletta by storm yesterday morning as they marched along during their ninth joint annual parade.

Some 4,500 scouts and guides, pipes blaring and drums booming, brought some cheer to the city which is usually very quiet on Sunday mornings.

This year's event holds particular significance for the Scout Association of Malta, which will mark its centenary anniversary in November.

In fact, around 50 past scouts also took part in yesterday's event, which kicked off with Thanksgiving Mass at St Publius church in Floriana. The official centenary flag was also carried during the march. The scouts marched past the Presidential Palace where they saluted acting President George Hyzler.

Yesterday's event saw 40 Scout groups and 30 Guide companies taking part. They marched in district order, with the South District leading the others.
