BirdLife condemns Victoria Lines vandalism

BirdLife Malta staff and volunteers together with other international conservationists are currently monitoring raptor migration at Messina in Sicily, once notorious for its illegal hunting, BirdLife said.

The mountains of Messina used to be renowned as an illegal hunting hotspot until conservation organisations ran a successful campaign that put an end to poaching in Sicily in the 1990s.

BLM said news of the vandalism on a wall along the Victoria Lines in Malta reached the group in Sicily resulting in an immediate reaction from BirdLife Malta and condemnation by the executive director of the conservation organisation, Tolga Temuge.

"BirdLife Malta condemns any act of vandalism and statements that are inciting hate and intolerance. Our campaign in Malta is about hunting in spring and the killing of protected species which are both illegal in the EU. We strongly condemn any attempt that is aimed at diverting focus from real issues of conservation," he said from Sicily.

According to Birdlife Malta millions of migration birds pass from malta and since no hunting is permitted for turtle doves and quails they should stay here to breed. Some also stated that they heard a lot of birds singing in their garden and also turtle doves singing in their flight during migration. They stated this because the hunting season is closed. Why now they left to Sicily?

Now the truth about Birdlife is coming out, a lie after another. If what they say is the truth there will be no need to go to Sicily but stay here in Malta to birdwatch the Millions of Birds that migrate over Malta.

if according to Bird Life Malta, Malta is a migrating route for birds, why did they have to go to Messina to observe birds of prey ?

so much harp by birdlife members that malta is losing from tourists who come over to Malta to watch migrating birds when they themselves went to Sicily birdwatching .

I was just wondering , having moved to Messina [bridlife ] to monitor raptors , why they did not stay here when with a closed season and all the birds that should be staying here , they should have been having the time of there life in Malta this year . the proof of the pudding is in the eating .
