Duped over hunting
To quote an extract from Richard Cachia Caruana's speech on January 30, 2003 on the results of the negotiations with the EU:
"On the other hand, there were areas where different Maltese groups held opposing views. Perhaps the best example of this concerns the hunting and trapping issue and the conflicting views of the hunters and environmentalists. It was clearly necessary for us to find a solution that was fair to both sides, as well as to the rest of the population. The result is that hunting and trapping will certainly not be abolished - contrary to what was said in certain quarters."
To quote Eddie Fenech Adami in a signed letter dated April 2003, (in translation): "Although restrictions exist on spring hunting in European Union countries, these restrictions will not apply in Malta with regard to turtle doves and quail, the two birds close to the heart of hunters in Malta and Gozo."
To quote Lawrence Gonzi in an e-mail sent to a fellow hunter in September 2007:
"Nixtieq inkun naf minn daħaq b'minn." (I would like to know who took who for a ride). Any further comment is superfluous.

Those quotes should serve as a reminder for all Maltese people who claim themselves as loving Malta more than any political party. It will get people conscious of how at some certain cases, democracy will be seriously treathened.
I do not pretend Dr.Gonzi to go against EU implications but at least he should have stood up for what he said. The same must be said in the case of EFA and all the bella compania who have lately rejected a particular petition by FKNK signed by thousands of Maltese. The Cypriot government have lately been an example to these figureheads supposed to work for Maltese people rights!!!!!

Publishing the letters would be the greatest testimony to uncovering the truth the people deserve to know.

David what you say is nothing but the truth , but it seems nowadays it does not count any more to any one , we are not even entitled to an explanation or why we have come in this postion .

ns. We have all been deceived by parties promising lower taxes and light bulbs in the past so that is no big deal. But when the information is coming from the highest institution of the country ? Or by the department which was supposed to deliver the situation to `inform` the public about negotiations ? Propaganda could have been used by the Government elected by the people for the people and its various departments including MIC which was the only source of information where one could check first hand about the situation and common positions between Malta and the EU.
A marriage built on deceit is no marriage at all, at least that is what I was taught.
The way I see it, Malta shouldn't have been taken to court in the first place as this was a clear demonstration that no agreement was ever reached. So what was all the information supplied prior to EU/Referendum based on ? Answers please ?

You're certainly right, in additional, a letter was published yesterday on the Sunday Times with the title "Hunting and trapping promises" and as an attachment with the letter was the latest letter (translated to English) sent to us by the then Prime Minister Dr Eddie Fenech Adami, but unfortunately it was not published perhaps due to lack of space, and I sincerely hope that the editor will publish it on next Sunday Issue. Thank you.

Has our great PM turned deaf and blind now that he is facing the truth?

Well written Mr. Borg Cardona.
However, please allow me to include also the documentation from the Ministy of Home Affairs and the Environment, as well as that of the MIC EU Information Centre IN COLLABORATION WITH THE EUROPEAN COMMISSION REPRESENTATIVES IN MALTA who also confirmed that Spring Hunting is to stay. In fact, the former even went as far as to state that the EU had understood Malta's position and that Spring Hunting will continue.
I have been asking for explanations with regard to written documentation in the possession of hunters and nobody has as yet come forward! I strongly believe that the law-abiding hunters who are being deprived of the so much awaited Spring Hunting Season and seeing their rights being tramplled upon, surely deserve some form of explanation.

Well done David,
Anybody argue?
Of course the three mentioned persons below will not say anything at this stage, thinking that we MIGHT forget.
Some people will never forget - I am one of those.
