New award-winning wines available in Malta

Three award-winning wines from Australia and Italy - D'Arenberg, Masciarelli and Villa Matilde - have been introduced in Malta by Bicanter.

"It is a great honour for Bicanter to have been entrusted with marketing and distributing these quality wines exclusively in Malta. These additions to our portfolio give us more energy to continue to seek further new wines that Maltese enthusiasts can appreciate," John Farrugia, of Bicanter Wines, said.

D'Arenberg, which has a very distinct label with a famous diagonal red stripe, is one of the most important wineries in McLaren Vale. Apart from the climate, which is ideal for wine making, d'Arenberg have guiding principles that have kept the wines traditional and attracted the attention of many wine critics.

In his last report on Australian wines, Robert Parker awarded over 90 points to 11 of d'Arenberg's wines.

Masciarelli, from Abruzzo, Italy was named Winery of the Year by the renowned Italian wine guide Gambero Rosso in 2004.

The winery has gone from strength to strength in the past years under the able hands of Gianni Masciarelli and Marina Cvetic. In the last year, eight of their wines reached the finals for the three glasses awards and in the past years they have been awarded 17 three glasses awards for their wines.

Villa Matilde from Campania was named Winery of the Year by the Wines and Spirits magazine in 2007. Their wines come from indigenous vines from Campania such as Falaghina and Aglianico. They are the winery that revived the famous Falerno del Massico.

Bicanter was set up a few years ago by two wine enthusiasts with the aim of introducing quality and award-winning wines with a good quality/price ratio to the Maltese market. The objective is to offer Maltese wine enthusiasts wine that is not aimed for mass markets but where the emphasis of the wine maker is based on quality rather than quantity.
