Fraser Eagle Ltd achieves 'Carbon Clear' status in the UK
With close to 400,000 vehicle movements recorded in 2007 alone, leading transport and logistics company Fraser Eagle Ltd has registered a significant milestone by achieving carbon neutral status in the UK.
"While being realistic about the fact that a certain amount of pollution may be unavoidable, we have studied and invested in ways to curb as far as possible our company's carbon footprint," Kevin Dean, group managing director of Fraser Eagle, explained.
With 170 staff in the UK and 38 in Malta, Fraser Eagle has a successful and diverse portfolio of companies that also includes corporate travel, incident management, destination management as well as a branding and web-solutions firm.
Environmental impact reduction targets, need long-term planning and determination and Fraser Eagle established its own in-house environmental think-tank in 2006 to help it achieve its green targets.
Among other smart initiatives, Fraser Eagle has adopted the use of sustainable fuels for its 28-strong coach fleet after a deal it signed last year with innovative Burnley start-up company, Dexter Biofuels, that provides a clean burning alternative fuel produced from renewable resources. It is also encouraging its 2,000 partners with over 10,000 vehicles which are used by Fraser Eagle in fulfilling its contracts with corporate clients, to consider switching to biofuel.
Fraser Eagle also worked with Carbon Clear, a carbon management company. This helps clients control their carbon impact and calculate their carbon footprint, reducing greenhouse emissions at the source. They can also purchase carbon offset credits to balance their unavoidable climate change pollution.
These initiatives balance the CO2 emissions of daily business activity in the company's UK headquarters and the emissions from the company's coach fleet, as well as the executive taxis and company cars.
Fraser Eagle has also invested in simple yet effective systems such as sensor-activated lights in the kitchen, toilet and corridor areas at its Padiham base. It also actively encourages employees to get involved in energy saving.
Fraser Eagle now recycles all its copier paper and has introduced double-sided photocopiers and an electronic correspondence policy for all employees. Other initiatives are planned.
