Theft charge

A 19-year-old man from Victoria was yesterday granted bail after he pleaded not guilty to stealing cash and other items from a car in his hometown on Thursday afternoon.

Magistrate Anthony Ellul heard Jethro Camilleri plead not guilty to stealing cash, personal items and computer and hi-fi equipment from the car.

The police said the alleged case happened shortly after 7 p.m. and that the owner of the car had noticed that somebody was stealing from his car but the thief managed to escape in another vehicle, carrying the items.

Mr Camilleri was apprehended some time later in Fontana while the alleged stolen items were found elsewhere. Magistrate Ellul granted the accused bail on a personal guarantee of €2,000 (Lm859), among other conditions. Police Inspectors Josric Mifsud and Frank Tabone prosecuted.
