The police have found a quantity of fireworks hidden in a store in Labour Avenue in the heart of Naxxar, a few corners away from the scene of the tragic blast which killed two people and demolished three houses two months ago.

The fireworks were hidden in a basement and were found in a police raid which included the adjoining Peace Band club.

The surrounding area was evacuated.

Army explosives experts were called to the scene to remove the fireworks, which were stored in boxes, as well as explosive materials in sacks,

Magistrate Myrian Hayman is leading an inquiry.
