PN's former information director to head OPM communications
Gordon Pisani, the former Nationalist Party information director, has been appointed head of communications within the Office of the Prime Minister.
Mr Pisani will be responsible for government communications and media relations.
He studied at St Aloysius College and later read for a Bachelors of Art degree in legal and humanistic studies, and is a legal procurator.
In a statement issued yesterday the Department of Information also said that Josephine Vassallo, who served as press secretary within the OPM for the past 18 months, has been appointed the Prime Minister's personal secretary.
In a statement, the Labour Party criticised Mr Pisani's appointment, saying that his background as a former employee of the Nationalist Party's media machine made him unsuitable for the post which was a sensitive one and which belonged "to all the people".
Acting Labour leader Charles Mangion said the Labour Party was not willing to accept public funds being utilised in a partisan manner in order to serve the interests of the Nationalist Party. He said the PN government should be more careful in its public appointments if it wants to earn the respect of the Labour opposition.

First of all, I think I was clear in saying that I believed that there was no alternative, I do not think that I the Labour Party in its current state could have been in government. Nevertheless, one should be careful when saying that Labour are always negative and they always whine. That easily dispels any criticism directed at the nationalist in an arrogant and unjustified manner . Criticism is healthy, and I appeal to all nationalist as well to criticise when needed.
This country cannot go on in the mentally that Blue is all good and Red is all bad or the other way round.
My point was that, when you say you want to work together, then act that way. And not act alone, just one week after all your nice speeches about working together.
As regards this appointment, once again I tell you that not everything and everyone is either blue or red. Once the nationalist party made such an emphasis on working together, it would have been better had an effort at finding somebody who is not so blatantly nationalist, especially considering the role that such a person has played within the nationalist party. There are a lot of valid people who are neither blue nor red and therefore they would be able to satisfy the requirements of the job without controversy. By not recruiting someone who is pro PN, it doesnt mean you recruit someone who is pro MLP.
Maybe Mr.Pisani is good at the job, I'm sure that he is, but when he decides to be so involved in the basic machinery of propaganda of the PN he should also acknowledge the fact that he would be ruling himself out of such positions.
I fear that in Malta we are still labeling people as either Blue or Red. With the famous mentality of " min mhux maghna kontra taghna" we exclude people who act on their own principles, while on the other hand, we reward people who do what they are told by the Big Brother and say yes to the party machines.
1) PFP decision without consultation whatsoever
2) A joke of a proposal to the opposition to nominate the speaker and lose a chair in parliament
3) Former PN information director appointed as head of communications within OPM
Wonderful track record so far.
Pity we had no alternative to this arrogance.
