The Malta Motorsport Federation (MMF) has been recognised by the International Automobile Federation (FIA) as the national ruling body for motorsport in Malta. This came about following the approval of a resolution during an annual conference by FIA in Paris.
"The Council of the Malta Motorsport Federation welcomes this important milestone which is the product of a bold effort that has been ongoing since the formation of the federation in 2007," a MMF statement said.
"Achieving top international recognition is an important first step for the federation which will now be increasing its efforts to provide professional support to member clubs and associations in Malta."
The issue of Maltese Competition licences by the MMF will ensure that the high standard of Maltese drivers and the equally high standard of preparation of local racing cars are appropriately recognised at an international level.
"The MMF will be working on various initiatives that include the strengthening of the federation's internal operational framework, the articulation of a Strategic Plan for motorsport in Malta for the period 2009-2011, the consolidation of motorsport facilities, and an appropriate presence on the internet," the statement concluded.
